Plans for mini community garden for Wexford move step closer to fruition

Plans to develop a small community garden in Wexford Town are well advanced. The project is part of GIY's 'Together We Grow' initiative. Wexford County Council is supporting it. The Chamber of Commerce along with a number of local community groups will do the heavy lifting!

The site selected for the project is situated between the Chamber offices and Redmond Park. The idea to involved a number of community groups in the setting up and maintenance of the garden came from GIY. They have found that this approach leads to a stronger, happier and more empowered local community.

Although the space is small the plan is to have a good range of fruit trees and bushes, edible and medicinal herbs, a selection of colourful and scented flowers and shrubs, a compost area and rainwater harvesting. The sketch below gives an idea of how it will look (although it's in two parts it is one continuous area).
