This year marks 100 years since the Battle of Messines and the death in that battle of Major Willie Redmond. A number of events have taken place in Wexford looking at the life, times and legacy of Willie and at the political contribution of the Redmond family generally. These included an ecumenical ceremony of remembrance and wreath-laying at Redmond Park on June 11 to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Major William Redmond MP. This was attended by descendants of the man himself. There was also a Major Willie Redmond exhibition along with a very well attended commemorative lecture by Jarlath Glynn at Wexford Library earlier the same week.
