Is Wexford ready for Open Food Network?

Over the last 4 months people from different co-ops, CSAs (Community-supported Agriculture) and Transition Towns have been making progress with the setting up the Open Food Network in Ireland. OFN is a virtual market platform for local producers, farmers, CSAs, food coops, markets and communities.

There is strong interest in Wexford town in the concept of food networks which bring local/regional producers of organic and chemical-free produce together with local communities. Redmond Park is presently under consideration as a potential location for a once-weekly meeting point.

Open Food Network is a community-owned software platform for selling food. It can be either a shopfront for individual enterprises or a community hub of farmers and other local producers working together. OFN is currently operating in 9 countries, with 1000’s of local producers using it to reach markets to sell their products and support their local food economies in these difficult times.

On Wednesday 29th July 2020 I 20.00 - 21.30 there is a webinar to introduce the platform. This free webinar will be held on Zoom. Places are limited, to register send an email to ofnireland@gmail.com.

Summer in the Park

We have just endured a couple of months of lockdown. And, just like that, we are up to mid-Summer. With the easing of restrictions, people are a bit easier about getting out and about. One can almost feel the ambient tension levels falling away as communities fling open front doors and venture forth again onto the streets. We are, after all, social creatures at heart. Good social interaction makes for good communities. It's time to get out and meet the neighbours. It's time to visit your local park!

Go mbaineann sibh taitneamh as Lá Fhéile Phádraig. If you are planning a trip to Redmond Park, you should note that the play-ground is officially closed. As it is not roped off it is still possible to access the playground. Probably no harm to have hand sanitiser to hand. And please don't let the notice put you off strolling around the park. Pandemic or no, we still need exercise.
