The Love Redmond Park group recently held its annual Picnic in the Park. The park was a riot of colour and laughter as families made the most of the glorious weather. With primary schools having closed a couple of days previously for the Summer holidays the children just couldn’t wait to see each other again!
There were obstacle races with Menapians AC, novelty games and tug 'o war with Slam Entertainment and football skills with local GAA club, The Vols. The Rice children gave an awesome display of juggling. The Fairy & The Fiddler proved to be one of the star attractions as ‘The Fairy’ swirled hoops of fire while the amazing Dansky drove her into a Dervish-like frenzy with his exquisite fiddle playing. As always Red Moon Theatre Puppet Show was a big hit. From there it was a hop, step and a bit of a wait for an ice-cream before getting in line to have one’s face painted.
There was a whole afternoon of great music starting with songwriter Kevin Tierney, followed by a lively trad and folk set courtesy of Alice and James Mcintyre and Michael Murphy. The award-winning Rachel Grace delivered a captivating and hugely well-received set. The big-voiced Hayley Crosbie drew great applause for her rendition of some old favs. It was left to headlining Blues, Rock and R&B band the submersibles to bring proceedings to a close.
Overall there was a great reaction to the day with the mix of activities going down very well. As always we say a huge THANK YOU to the stewards, volunteers and performers who helped make the day the success it was. Thanks also to Civil Defence and Wexford County Council, especially District Manager Angie Laffan, for their support.
